Abstract

The development of the times has brought a lot of modernity and new culture to society. This culture can be various, one of which is deviations such as prostitution. This study aims to determine the process of growing self awareness of the dangers of cervical cancer in the motives of former commercial sex workers through public service advertisements. This study uses a New Media theory that discusses a convergence between digital communication technology that has been computerized into the network, in this context the digital media used is YouTube. This study uses a paradigm of constructivism which is a way of studying the reality formed by humans and also the implications of human interactions. The results showed that there were two categories of self awareness in former commercial sex workers. First is the objective self awareness, which is the feeling of starting to worry about the activities of his work, especially in his own health. Then the second is symbolic self awareness, which is a feeling of guilt from him about the work he has been doing. He felt that if the work he had been doing was something wrong, so there was a desire to stop being a commercial sex worker.
